I have to yank on them nearly a dozen times to get the door to pop open from the outside (from the inside they work like new) – it is this way on the 2 doors that are used most often. And a third door won’t open at all anymore, not even from the inside. I thought this could be caused by overuse, but i’m not a doctor (mechanic). PLEASE tell me if i can fix this at home or if i have to have the door handles replaced – if so, could i get the parts from a salvage yard and do it myself??

How to fix tight door handles?

The exterior handles on my Volvo C70 work but they work best with the window down or if you push on the door around the handle while you pull the handle. How would this problem be fixed

I can open the door from the inside and have removed the handles and removed the central screw but it wont come out.

I have read that a key needs to be used but that is the problem, I’ve lost the key :(

                                Inadequate Heating Supply?

I moved into a 2 bed private rented house after signing an initial 6 month contract. The house does not have Gas Central Heating but has 2 gas fires situated in the 2 downstairs reception rooms.

Upstairs in each bedroom, wall mounted, there is an electric storage heater where since I’ve moved in they haven’t worked at all. An electrician came out to look at the heaters where upon he came to the conclusion that they were beyond repair and condemnd them. This was over 6 months ago.

I’ve been in touch with my letting agent who basically said the landlord does not have the money to repair or replace.

I’ve now got the local Public Health officer involved who came to my property to inspect where she found there wasn’t any adequate upstairs heating. She went onto explain that she would be contacting my letting agent to tell them to ensure the following works needed to be carried out.

                                1. A missing Bannister rail to stairs needed to be put in place
                                2. Double glazing, whether that be upvc or wooden framed, as my property only has single pane fitted.
                                3. Adequate heating needed to be installed whereby it has to be able to be regulated at a constant level of 21 degrees when the outside temperature was zero. She added that under the current housing legislation electric storage heaters are not acceptable as a form of adequate heating and therefore did not comply.

I telephoned my lettings agent asking him if the landlord is intending to do the work and he warned me that if i were to keep pestering the landlord then he would leave no option but to serve me with a notice to quit under section 21. i further added that all i wanted was adequate heating for when i have my disabled boy at the weekends.

My questons are this if my landlord instructs the letting agent to serve me a section 21 notice to quit because i’ve instigated actions leading him to put his hand in his pockets, can he quite rightly for this reason alone evict me on thoe grounds?

I’m aware landlords don’t need any reason to regain possession of their property, but surely don’t i have rights too?

Also to add, how do i stand taking legal action against the letting agent knowing they fully knew that under the current housing legislation they let the property to me with inadequate heating upstiars thats never worked and not acceptable as adequate heating complying with the legislation, as well as it never ever even worked from day one?

I’ve now been in the property for one year and love the area and don’t want to be evicted.

The public health officer did point out to my letting agent that no matter who the tenant is, the work still needed to be undertaken to meet current local council housing legislation.

                                any help/advice would be grateful.

                                Mark

I’ve ordered some UPVC double glazed windows supply only, we sent the company a diagram of the four windows showing which way we want the openings as you look at them from the inside of the house (we didn’t stipulate this when we sent them the info). When they’ve been delivered they’ve been made as if your looking from the outside. The company never asked the question and there’s nothing on their website regarding how to measure etc so who’s responsibility is it?
